Your Guide After IUI
The time between your IUI and pregnancy test can feel long and emotional. This guide explains what’s normal, what to expect, and when to call.
What’s Happening Now?
After ovulation and IUI:
Fertilization (if it occurs) happens within 24 hours of ovulation
The embryo travels to the uterus over several days
Implantation typically occurs 6–10 days after ovulation
It is normal not to feel anything during this time.
Normal Symptoms
You may experience:
Mild cramping
Bloating
Breast tenderness
Fatigue
Light spotting (possible implantation spotting)
Mood changes
These symptoms can be caused by
Progesterone (natural or prescribed)
Early pregnancy
Your normal cycle
Symptoms alone cannot confirm pregnancy.
Medications
If prescribed progesterone or other medications:
Take exactly as directed
Do not stop unless instructed
Progesterone may delay your period
Activity Guidelines
You may:
Work
Walk
Do light to moderate activity
Have intercourse unless otherwise instructed
Avoid:
Intense new workouts
Heavy lifting
Activities that cause significant abdominal strain
Gentle movement, hydration, and stress reduction are encouraged.
Pregnancy Testing
Test on the date instructed by Dr. Wong
Testing too early may give a false negative
Do light to moderate activity
If using an hCG trigger shot, early testing may give a false positive
If your test is positive:
Call the office for next steps
If negative:
Call the office to discuss next steps and medication instructions
When to Call Immediately
Seek urgent care if you experience:
Severe abdominal pain
Heavy bleeding
Fever
Persistent nausea or vomiting
Dizziness or fainting
These symptoms are uncommon but important.
Emotional Well-Being
The two-week wait can be emotionally intense. It is normal to feel:
Hopeful
Anxious
Tearful
Impatient
Limit excessive symptom-checking or repeated early testing if possible.
